Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but pearls are her closest ally.  And while the best jewels are distinguished by the glassy translucence of their stone, pearls are not so exposed.  They're invulnerable to the meticulous eye of human adoration.  They're guarded and demure, having a natural solidity that grants them a stature of refined maturity.  I appreciate them for the subtlety of their shine, and their ability still to captivate at par with the loud, self-proclaimed brilliance of precious gems. Their companionship is quiet, a reason they can accent without overpowering (and when your pants sparkle a million shades of gold, you don't need another strand of stars).  I've been a collector of pearls ever since I was old enough to test for genuine quality. Though, let me tell you, neither jewelers nor dentists particularly prefer prepubescent girls rubbing away the enamel on their front teeth, in an effort to authenticate a pearl through its natural graininess.
