The turbulence of the city never ceases to impress, but the alcoves of quiet serenity never cease to amaze. It's a city that has the potential to hold every wonder, every sin. I've never suppressed my love for the industrial mecca of Manhattan, so none of this is new. When I went to visit Columbia over school break (for the third time...) I fell in love as if it was the first time. I brought my grandmother's golden collar necklace for good luck, a vibrant blue paisley dress from Topshop that I've been hoarding in my closet for I don't know how long (it's one of those buys you covet intentionally until the weather is just perfect enough you can justify its coming-out), and my easiest to wear backless LDTuttle booties (a magnificent stroke of luck found on Net-a-Porter last season). This outfit was all about blending classic inspirations with a cool edge, and incorporating just a dab of patriotism in the color scheme - because, as the world knows, Americans can't resist to make a show of their nationalistic pride. D'uh.
